Saturday Science Circus

McGill neuroscientist Dr. Amir Raz (Canada Research Chair in the Cognitive Neuroscience of Attention) and former magician, demystifies the potential of suggestion and hypnosis in helping us understand brain function, consciousness and how attention influences our actions and thoughts. (In English, 2:00 pm)

Ariel Fenster, of McGill's Office for Science and Society, presents "Life is a risky business". We are constantly bombarded with information about the risks we face in life. As a result, we worry. We worry about the dangers of climate change, the safety of our food supply and now, about the H1N1 flu pandemic. Life is indeed a risky business and we will not come out of it alive! This interactive lecture sorts out facts and myths to show that the real dangers are not always where they are thought to be. (In French, at 3:00 pm)

...AND some quirky science outreach demonstrations by Let's Talk Science, Math or Magic, the Redpath Museum Club and the WOW Lab (1:00 pm - 4:00 pm).
